Last few days ive been in the process of writing up a rather large Season Summary for my blog, but, now that im going to be moved to a new Gameworld there really is no point because all the info i was writing about will be gone. Expect more posts about my new team in Gameworld X, i’ll be resurecting my old team Mitsubishi Warriors and i’ll be taking what i learnt as a youth club to make my side all dominating mwahaha! Stay tuned for more info, expect a pic of my all new side when i get it up and running.
Thanks everyone in GW3! Enjoy the competition that i’ve made, where theres nearly 12million of my saved up cash up for grabs. And dont forget to take a look at all the young starlets that i released from The Green Arrows and give them a happy home!
Well here in Gameworld 3 we’ve just managed to get the first EVER 5 star rated team! Congratulations too Stephen Acourt’s The Real Tottenham Hotspur, thats some achievement, unfortunatly i didnt grab a screenshot of the other day when he had both the number one ranked senior and youth teams.
Not suprising when he has a huge team of players of varying ages, he is however walking a very fine line with his finances. Currently he has alot of players out on loan, if they werent out on loan im sure that his team would rapidly go bankrupt.
28th of February Judgement Day, who will survive? There’s now just 5 days left till the season comes to a close (in Gameworld 3). This is the worst time of the season, ive played 33 of my 38 league games, and the league starts to take shape. Because some of us race ahead at the start of the season and play a lot of our games the league table looks a bit wonky and its only in the last few days of a season you start to see the whole picture as teams start to catch up with the more hardcore of us who’ve played the majority of our games.
This becomes a very stressful time for us hardcore of us, because theres just nothing that we can do but watch the other teams slowly catching us. My team for the first few weeks of the season “looked” to be playing pretty well we where in top 5 in the table, as teams have started to catch up im now mid table. More worrying is the fact that as my team is full of youth, so they’ve lost a fair few games! When you add to that the fact the majority of the best teams in the GW are in my league, the XFA Gold League, it makes things even more nail biting!
I’ve got 40 odd points in 20 team league, in the premiership this would normally guarantee safety from relegation! Na uh! Not in the XFA though! Everyone’s been taking points off each other in the our league a lot, most teams have lost at least 8 games so things are pretty tightish. Hopefully no one below me gets a good run of form going in there final games, unfortunately everyone below me has played less games than me, oh dear! Are there dark days ahead for Green Arrows? Will 3 seasons of fighting for promotion and finally getting to the top league all end in tears in our first season there?
There are always curveballs thrown in the end of the season, more so in the FML world and especially in the XFA. Let me explain, the XFA hate AI games, they are very much frowned upon. Letting the game decide 30% or more of your league games results in you losing your prize money! It has also been seen quit regularly that teams can not just get throw out of the league, they can also be removed from the federation! So expect to see me with a big stick thrashing and hollering about AI games at the end of the season if im in the bottom three!
There are a lot of similarities in the aim of football management games in general, win trophies and have the best team, and erm, that’s really it!? Until now that would be true, but with the addition of learnable skills in FML there are now even more aims and ways to play and manage your club.
Me, im a feeder club, by that I mean only buy youth and I sell them on before they reach the age of 22. This has been highly lucrative for me, buying a youth player can cost as little as £10,000 for a regen and be sold later when they’ve developed for millions! Take my biggest sale, Daniel Aquino, when I bought him to my club he cost me just £60,000 and when I sold him he fetched £2,500,000 (despite only having a Acquisition Fee of just £650,000)! Currently I have somewhere in the region of 70 youth players at my club spread over three squads, Green Arrows (the best players), U21s (not quite good enough for the seniors) and U17 (my raw starlets who I hope in a few seasons time are my seniors).
To best complement my “Style of Play” I use the Skills to my advantage, as im trying to progress these players into stars of tomorrow ive got several Coaching Skills, obviously theres no point in me getting the First Team Coaching Skills as ive got no one over the age of 22. Ive also invested my time in getting the first level of some of the Scouting Region Skills so I can see a few more of the youngsters in the Free Market. As im buying youngsters very cheaply and selling them as they start to blossom I’ve got a very healthy bank balance, also my wages are so low and im not spending my profits, so to best complement this part of my style ive invest heavily in the Finance Skills to get a higher rate of interest on my cash and keep all the youngsters on cheaper than there demanded contracts. I’m earning £25,000 interest per day, that’s more than most feds give out in media money each day!
The downside to my style of playing is im never probably going to get more than a 3 and a half star reputation because no sooner does someone turn into a fully fledged senior player he’s sold of to the highest bidder! Im also never going to be breaking into the top ten of the rankings anytime soon, its unlikely we’ll be winning any senior trophies either.
Other than having a huge bank balance to brag about in the chat rooms, there is only one other thing that i enjoy about this style of play, and that is the feeling you get when you look at someone you solds history and see the player you helped nature early in their career, has become the mega star he is today.
The Potential Skill, worthless or a very handy tool? Im going to say worthless. When ever I sign a youth player (my whole team is U21 by the way) I look at the attributes and completely ignore what the potential skill thinks of the player. A defender with a potential of 5 stars but has attribute of 6 for tackling is never going to turn into a star player in anyones defence, if hes lucky it my get up to 13 after a lot of games and seasons. Me, I look for players with atleast a 9 in each of the attributes that make the player great in a certain position, this means that given the right nurture and If he progresses at a decent rate will atleast have between 13 and 17 for each of the important attributes. I have several filters set up for each position so that at the click of a button I can bring up all the outstanding (in my eyes) youth that will hopefully become stars.
AI, Artificial Inteligence. Every game has it some are better than others, it would seem in FML at the moment the AI, or should that be AS (Artificial Stupidity)? Is being a bit well, retarded. Before I continue on you’ve got to remember that Gameworld 3 gets the first release of updates to the game, sometimes an update in our GW can cause more problems than it fixes, which in most cases get fixed before the update is moved onto the more retail like Gameworlds.
All fed games have a date that they have to be played by, when this date is reach AI Rights are given out (I’ll go more into AI Rights at another time, cos they at the moment is a whole rant on its own). If you get the AI rights to a match it means you have 24 hours to play against the opposing teams AI (or force them into the match if they are online).
A few months ago we had people moaning about the AI always beating them, but on the flip side there seemed to be a fair few people saying that they where always winning, which would say to me the AI must be doing a pretty fair and even job. Until now.
Its now started to be reported that the AI has decided that when you have a player sentoff or injured it doesn’t rearrange the formation to compensate. So, if your two central defenders get stretchered off the AI doesn’t sub them it infact would leave its defence with a large gapping hole in it, which would go some way to explaining why the AI lost a game in GW3 12-0! Obviously this is being looked at by Sports Interactive and will be sorted out before full release.
This isn’t tho the only case of the AI being stupid. I’ve also reported in the bug forums that when you auto select your team that its putting some weird and wonderful combinations of subs onto the bench, only the other day it decided that my formation needed 2 strikers and 2 right wingers sat on the bench, which is a bit strange seeing as my formation at the time had one striker and no wingers!?

Just got an update for Gameworld 3 on FML, looks to be more of a spit and polish. New graphs of previous rankings have been added, along with a working Records section! Atlast no more crashes and missing bits of info! One of the best glossy additions has to be the new kits, now there more technical looking and more like FM08 ones. All in all this update is definatly a feast on the eyes, FML really is starting to look the part now!

Nearly a week has now passed since the transfer of Daniel Aquino to GW3 team Cavemen from my club The Green Arrows, unfortunatly it would seem that the huge transfer sum is weighing heavily on the youngsters shoulders. It all started in the first games at his new club, not only was he not playing well but he was also getting injured and having to be subbed in his first few games. Slowly his form started to improve and he has now after 40 odd games for Caveman started to perform, but definatly not good enough to justify his £2.5million move.
What went wrong? Many believe that the manager of Cavemen should never have signed the youngster in the first place, but, how was Richard supposed to know that things would not be as rosey for Aquino after his transfer, when he’d spent 3 glorious seasons at Green Arrows (formaly Mitsubishi Warriors)? When Aquino joined The Warriors he joined for a fee of £60,000 but secured a large contract in the region £11,000 in a end of contract wage auction. Did the low transfer fee and high wages play apart in his rise to fame under the guidence? Was it more a case of him being the brightest bulb on a dimley light street? And when he moved to the big lights of the Cavemen he just couldnt shine as brightly as the superstars he joined up with.
Whatever the case there seems to be only one winner in the transfer, Robert Webb, manager of the Green Arrows. Just remember when you make the next big above aquisition fee bid, is he really the star he seems? Im sure tho in the end Aquino will come good, his talents are obvious, and its only a matter of time before Cavemen hit gold with him, but does manager Richard Usher have the patience? Or does Aquino need do book himself into the Marco Boogers caravan park?

Recently on FML theres been alot of talk about “Silly” cheat formations and how they are cheat tactics that are exploiting the game. Most of these tactics involve a large amount of players in the upper third of the pitch. Normaly something like this. But im more inclines to say that all they are doing in these formations is puting attack before defence and using the old motto of “the best defence is a good offence”.
So with that in mind i decided with my limited experince in the tactical side of FML to use a highly defensive tactic to try and limit the opposition from having 20-30 odd shots on goal and keeping everything as even as possible. So in my teams case it will be more about grabbing a goal on the break and overloading the defensive part of the pitch, and heres what i ended up with.
Has it worked tho? Well my results have stopped being huge defeats, and when i am getting beaten its now only by one goal, which i can live with (just about).
